Javier C. Angulo
Javier is currently the Deputy Political Director of the No on Proposition 8 – Equality for All campaign. California Proposition 8 seeks to amend the State constitution to eliminate same sex marriages. Javier assists in managing the day-to-day political strategy for the campaign, with an emphasis in outreach to ethnic communities and leadership. Prior to this position, Javier was the National Director of Civic Engagement for the NALEO Educational Fund, a non-partisan, non-profit organization that is committed to civic participation in the United States. He served as the lead coordinator of the ya es hora ¡Ciuadadania! national campaign which is credited for increasing U.S. naturalization rates by 59% in 2007, and received numerous recognitions and awards for innovation and impact. Previous to NALEO, Javier was responsible for fundraising over $2 million annually as the Associate Director of Development for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, where he managed corporate development as well as the organization’s special events. Javier started his career in advocating for civil rights and civic participation as a fellow for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute in Washington D.C. where he served as a Hispanic community liaison to the former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle.
Javier’s advocacy efforts extend beyond his occupation. He has been active in the Los Angeles Neighborhood Council program as a Commissioner for the Neighborhood Council Review Commission and as an elected member of the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council. He is a Founder of Hermanos Unidos, Inc. which promotes and advocates for the advancement of Latino men via educational outreach efforts and leadership development. Mr. Angulo has served as an expert panelist on topics of civic engagement and has received several recognitions for his community work.
Mr. Angulo was raised in Whittier, CA and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California Santa Barbara. Mr. Angulo currently resides in Los Angeles, California in the Lincoln Heights community.
