Christopher Cabaldon
8th Assembly District

Described by the Sacramento Bee as "one of the most intelligent, talented and hard-working elected officials in the region," Christopher Cabaldon is a recognized local, regional, and statewide leader in educational opportunity and reform, environmental protection and enhancement, neighborhood quality of life, civil rights, and transportation and technology. First elected to the West Sacramento City Council in 1996, Christopher Cabaldon is serving his fifth term as Mayor. Christopher served for five years as Vice Chancellor of the California Community Colleges, the largest system of higher education in the United States. Christopher was a top policy expert with the State Legislature for nearly a decade, serving as the staff director of the Assembly Higher Education Committee and chief of staff to the chair of the Assembly Appropriations Committee. He wrote legislation to expand student financial aid, crack down on diploma mills and abusive trade schools, recruit new science and math school teachers, and increase funding for college facilities and safety improvements. If elected, Christopher Cabaldon would be the first openly gay person of color to serve in the California legislature!

Laurette Healey

A successful corporate executive, entrepreneur and small business owner, Laurette Healey was inspired by a desire to bring entrepreneurial values to state government. Laurette wound down her day-to-day business activities to join Steve Wesley – starting with his first campaign for Controller and through his last campaign for Governor. During this time, Laurette was appointed as Deputy State Controller in the administration of State Controller Steve Westly, and continued her service into the new administration of current State Controller, John Chiang. Laurette has served as a board member of the California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV), Equality California, Stonewall Democrats, Valley Democrats United and as an elected representative to the Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council and the south valley Mayor’s budget process.

John A. Pérez
46th Assembly District

John A. Pérez has dedicated his career to helping working families succeed in his 15 years working for labor unions, most recently serving as UFCW political director. Growing up in the working class communities of El Sereno and Highland Park, John’s parents taught him the values of hard work and community service. John has channeled that passion into fighting to create jobs, expand healthcare and to protect basic rights like an eight-hour day with overtime. John’s work on behalf of the community has been recognized by various elected officials and organizations. Three mayors, including Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, have appointed John to major Los Angeles City Commissions. State Assembly Speaker Bob Hertzberg appointed John to serve on the Blue Ribbon panel studying state initiative reform. John also received a Presidential appointment to serve on the President’s Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS. In addition to the labor movement, John serves as an elected member of the Democratic National Committee. John has served as a board member of the California League of Conservation Voters, AIDS Project Los Angeles, the Latino Coalition against AIDS and the California Center for Regional Leadership. If elected, John will be the first openly gay Latino to serve in the California legislature!
