XAVIER BECERRA FOR GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA 2026

HONOR PAC ENDORSES XAVIER BECERRA FOR GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA
Latina/o/e LGBTQ+ Political Action Committee Backs Most Experienced Candidate in Historic Race to Lead the World’s Fourth Largest Economy

LOS ANGELES, CA HONOR PAC, the nation’s leading non-partisan political action committee empowering Latina/o/e LGBTQ+ communities, today proudly announced its endorsement of Xavier Becerra for Governor of California in the 2026 election.

“Xavier Becerra is not only the most qualified candidate in this race — he is the candidate whose life, record, and values most completely embody everything HONOR PAC has fought for since our founding,” said Mario Ceballos, President of HONOR PAC. “This endorsement is not just about politics. It is about the soul of California and the safety, dignity, and future of every LGBTQ+ Latina/o/e person who calls this state home.”

A Champion for LGBTQ+ Equality — From the Very Beginning

Xavier Becerra’s commitment to LGBTQ+ equality is not a recent political calculation. It is a decades-long record of moral courage, forged at a time when such courage was rare and politically costly.

In 1996, when Congress voted on the Defense of Marriage Act — a bill that would have enshrined discrimination against same-sex couples into federal law — Becerra was among only 67 of 435 Members of the House of Representatives to vote against it. He stood on the right side of history before it was safe to do so.

That early conviction never wavered. Over his 24 years in Congress, Becerra co-sponsored and voted for the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act; voted to end the discriminatory “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” military policy; was an original co-sponsor of both the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and the landmark Equality Act; and was a tireless champion for HIV/AIDS funding and research.

As California Attorney General, Becerra intervened in landmark cases defending transgender students and challenged the Trump administration’s ban on transgender military service. He revamped the California Department of Justice’s approach to hate crimes, with particular focus on protecting Black transgender women.

Today, as a candidate for Governor, Becerra has pledged to strengthen California’s status as a sanctuary for transgender youth and their families, to fight forced-outing policies in schools, and to expand the PrEP Assistance Program as part of California’s goal to end the HIV epidemic by 2030.

“I am honored and humbled to receive this important endorsement,” said former HHS Secretary, CA Attorney General and Gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra. “I am proud to stand with HONOR PAC and the Latina/o/e LBGTQ+ communities as I have throughout my career in public service.”

“HONOR PAC has always believed that representation without power is not enough,” said Alfredo Pedroza, Northern California HONOR PAC Board Member. “Xavier Becerra doesn’t just represent our community — he has the power, the experience, and the moral clarity to govern for us. We are honored to stand behind him.”
